IMPACT Interested in Kurt Angle and Chael Sonnen

Several reports have come out recently that Kurt Angle, the TNA & WWE Hall of Famer has turned down an offer to join IMPACT. Details of the offer and what the plans were should he sign were not revealed. One has to imagine he would have been penciled in as an opponent for Shamrock if her were healthy. If not healthy he would be a great and more meaningful in the role current EVP Scott D’Amore has on the show (even though he is great too, big Angle is well….ANGLE)

Impact officials made a strong pitch to get Angle to come back following his departure from WWE this year, according to PWInsider. The idea was that Angle would make his return at the Bound For Glory pay-per-view that took place in late October. There’s no word yet on why the return did not happen, but it was noted that the talks stalled for whatever reason”. H/T WrestlingInc

Former UFC and Bellator star Chael Sonnen also turned down an offer according to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The plan would have been for him to work with Shamrock in some capacity. For Chael, it’s a bit tricky. He is a huge fan but is in his mid forties and never wrestled before. He is aware that whatever he did would not live up to his standards, but if enough money was there he would be interested.

Another strike for him was that he was burned by Jeff Jarrett while serving as color commentator for those long forgotten GWF shows in Vegas. Chael has an aptitude for wrestling and would be an immediate upgrade on the mic over just about anyone in the company. He currently serves as a MMA analyst for ESPN and Bellator so he would also provide some exposure through those connections. If they can’t get him to wrestle he has plenty value as a commentator or manager.

Mike’s Take: While the reports are that they turned down the offers, that does not mean that the deals are dead. Angle is set to appear on Survivor Series this Sunday to pay tribute to the Undertaker but is not signed there. Chael will always go where the money is and if enough is offered he would likely take a deal. Both men could bring more eyeballs and serve as cross-over ambassadors and land them exposure on ESPN and other main stream sports affiliates.
