Confirmed for NXT: New Years Evil

On the latest edition of NXT we had several new matches now confirmed for New Years Evil taking place on January 6th, 2021. First after being called out by Timothy Thatcher, Tommaso Ciampa responded hitting Thatcher with Widows Bell and exclaiming he will see Thatcher in the Fight Pit. If you recall, Thatcher previously faced Matt Riddle in the Fight Pit earlier this year. The ‘Pit is similar to the Lions Den in the sense there are no ropes inside the caged ring. Platforms are at the top of the cage for wrestling to also be able to take place. Winners are by pinfall or submission only. No pansy ass crawling out the door.

Also confirmed was Rhea Rhipley vs Raquel Gonzales. This is a feud that has been brewing for a long time. The match was confirmed by New Years Evil host Dexter Lumis in his art work declaring it a Last Woman Standing match. Raquel has been NXT’s most improved woman this year. I was able to see her live back in October of 2018 and to see where she is at now is amazing.

The final match confirmed tonight was Karrion Kross vs Damien Priest. The returning Kross attacked Priest two weeks ago leading to the two former Impact talents squaring up to face off. Kross was pushed fast to the top after debuting earlier this year before a triceps injury took the title away and put him on the sideline. Priest, on the other hand, has been NXT’s newest star this year and can claim most improved wrestler in WWE if not all of wrestling for 2020. His match vs Balor at Takeover: In Your House was a star making performance and he has been on the ascension ever since.

These matches are all added to a card that already features round two of Finn Balor vs Kyle O’Reilly for the NXT Championship. The first meeting between the two was an instant classic garnering a 4 1/2* rating for the wrestling observers own Dave Meltzer, who admittedly docked it a bit for its physical nature leading to injury.

Other matches that could finish the card include Toni Storm vs Io Shirai which was teased as Storm called out Shirai. Io however was later attacked by a returning Mercedes Martinez which throws some doubt on if/when the Storm match will happen. Also a possibility is Johnny Gargano vs Kushida which looks to be building up but could be held off until February. Gargano will be defending the North American Title on the 12/30 episode of NXT against Leonn Ruff.
