How Chris Bey-NJPW deal came together

IMPACT/NJPW seemed to be getting back on good terms evidenced by Chris Bey’s participation in the Super J Cup last December. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select provided details on how this relationship came to fruition:

Things look pretty smooth on the New Japan USA-IMPACT side of things. Many were surprised when Chris Bey was offered a spot in the Super J-Cup Tournament. According to Bey, he read the pitch and was very flattered, but never thought that he’d actually get to participate in it. However, New Japan Pro Wrestling had already gained approval from Scott D’Amore. Once Bey found that out, he was full steam ahead on doing the tournament.

CHUCK’S TAKE: Regardless of some of the minor issues I may have with IMPACT Management regarding how certain situations are being practiced in the promotion; I tip my hats off to both Don Callis and Scott D’Amore on how their individual relationships with prominent members of the major promotions have created relationships for IMPACT. Two years ago, no major promotion wanted to have anything to do with IMPACT, but in the last 6-7 months, Callis-Amore have been able to re-create relationships with the 2 biggest promotions outside the WWE, even going far as to have ‘a world champion’ appear on IMPACT. Kudos to the two men.
